19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a third set.

Moutet rescued four early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
